Many homeless in NE over tribal clashes; 4 killed

Guwahati, Jan 7: An ethnic clash between two rival groups in North-East border left over 10,000 tribal homeless and the tensed situation turned more grievous after the death of four tribal in the region.

Garo and Rabha, the two well-known tribal, live near the border of Assam and Meghalaya of North-East.

"Rabhas living in Meghalaya suffered the most as their houses were set on fire and they fled to our side," stated a senior civil servant in Assam on Jan 7.

Showing concern over the issue, Meghalaya Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma said, "The situation is very tense but under control. I have spoken to Assam CM Tarun Gogoi and shared with him our concern."

Curfew continued all around the region, the army has been deployed on the Assam side and the BSF on the Meghalaya side.

Pak denies foreign military op in tribal areas

Islamabad, May 11: Pakistan has made it clear that only its security forces were responsible for any military action against Al Qaeda and other militants who may have taken refuge in the country's tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
