Nashik, Dec 23: Following Central government's decision to suspend onion export till Jan 15, 2011, the increased onion prices have started declining in Nashik, sources stated on Thursday, Dec 23.
Onions prices at Major Lasalgaon APMC ranged from Rs 401 to Rs 4,000 per quintal, an average price of Rs 2,400 quintal, while prices at Pimpalgaon Baswant APMC ranged from Rs 1,000 and Rs 3,700 per quintal, an average price of Rs2,300, Agriculture Produce Market Committees.
In Yeola market, the prices varied from Rs 800 to Rs 3,300 for an average of Rs 2300, the sources added.
Onion prices on Monday, Dec 20 ranged from Rs 7,100 to Rs 6,299 per quintal. They have started declining and the situation is likely to improve further in Jan 2011 when the red-onion stock will begin to arrive, hoped the experts.
A wholesale trader in Pune stated, "However, it (decline in wholesale onion price) had no immediate impact on the retail prices in the city. Prices will come down only if the wholesale prices continues to slide further."
