Now the Swiss Post chokes Wikileaks existence

Julian Assange
Geneva, Dec 7: Julian Assange is facing extreme challenges to keep Wikileaks up and running. The latest straw comes from Swiss Post that has threatened to close down its Wikileaks bank account.

Swiss Post in a statement on Monday said that Post Finance will terminate its business relationship with Julian Assange. Post Finance is the official name of the bank run by the Post office. The latest blockage will make operating the Wikileaks website extremely difficult. Wikileaks lost control of its domain name, wikileaks.org on Sunday and all its donations blocked through PayPal.

Wikileaks have employed various methods to keep the site the center-of-attention including employing over 70 other domain names and using mirror sites to publish the controversial data.

Wikileaks had asked donors to send their donations to the PostFinance account in the 'Julian Assange Defence Fund'. According to their records, Assange is an Australian citizen, but could not prove that he lived in Australia at any point of time. The Post Finance account is open only to Swiss nationals.

Assange is believed to be in the UK and is facing arrest over sexual exploitation charges in Sweden. The Wikileaks chief is expected to surrender following the charges leveled against him. The US ambassador to Bern in Switzerland has asked the country to refuse asylum to the controversial figure.
