US to shut down WikiLeaks; probe on Assange begins

US wants to shut down WikiLeaks site

Washington, Nov 30: Following the outrage created by release of 2.5 lakh diplomatic wires, United States want to shut down the whitsle-blowing website WikiLeaks.

US media reported that Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has started investigation on WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. FBI officials are investigating whether Julian Assange violated criminal laws in the group's release of government documents.

Media reports also added that Assange may be charged under the Espionage Act. FBI was also investigating the sources of the leaked documents and the persons who gave the the materials to WikiLeaks.

WikiLeaks released more than 2.5 lakh diplomatic classified cables on Sunday, Nov 28. The secret documents xposed dirty tricks and frank comments behind closed doors.

One of the shocking news exposed through secret documents was that US was running a secret intelligence campaign targeted on UN leaders. Also King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia asked US to attack Iran to put an end to its nuclear weapons programme.

Just after the leaks, US senators asked Obama administration to shut down the WikiLeaks website.
