No power & water for Adarsh Housing society

Mumbai, Nov 3: The electricity and water supply to the controversial Adarsh Housing Society have been cut off on Tuesday, Nov 2 evening.

The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), which is responsible for supplying electricity from Colaba to Mahim, decided to cut the power supply after Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) revoked the Society's occupancy certificate (OC).

''We had asked the MMRDA to provide us with the status on the OC. On Monday, Nov 1 afternoon, its officials gave us in writing that the OC will be revoked. We dispatched a second showcause notice to society members on Monday evening, asking why power supply should not be disconnected,'' said Om Prakash Gupta, BEST general manager.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has disconnected the water supply to the Adarsh Housing society.

MMRDA official approve the plan and grant OC after inspection. similarly BEST and BMC also inspect the construction before giving electricity and water connection. All these decisions and actions takes years and not taken in hours. OS and connections must have been given only after ensuring that the society had observed all the rules. That being the case, the act of disconnection of power and electricity to the society after the news of 'the scam' breaks out is not correct and the...
