Mumbai/New Delhi, Oct 30: Congress president Sonia Gandhi has summoned Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan in connection with the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society scam.
Chavan has been summoned to New Delhi to meet the UPA chairperson on Saturday, Oct 30 over his alleged role in the latest scam to hit the Congress in Maharashtra and the Congress-led Central government.
The Chief Minister, however, continues to maintain that he is innocent.
“I have never played any role as revenue minister or chief minister in sanctioning the land or promoting membership," Chavan said on Friday, Oct 29.
He also stressed that he should not be held guilty if his distant relatives were members.
The CM claimed that the land allotted to the society belonged to the state government and that there was no reservation for Kargil war heroes.
Further asserting that land belonged to the state government, though it is in the possession of the defence ministry, Chavan said, "This has been confirmed by the defence in its correspondence with the city collector."
