Android will overcome Nokia & Apple, say analysts

Android, Apple and Nokia
New York, Sep 20: A private analysts firm has predicted that the Google's mobile phone operating system Android will become the most popular mobile OS by 2015.

The analysts firm Inforna has predicted that by 2013 there will be more than one billion smartphone subscription and by 2015 half a billion people will be using Android OS.

"This growth will be driven by the ongoing competition between top tier manufacturers and challengers such as Google, RIM, Apple and Microsoft who are racing to create the best possible user experience at lower pricing points," said the firm.

The firm also predicts that world's largest mobile phone manufacturer, Nokia's OS Symbian will loose the supremacy in the market. It describes that Symbian's 53 percent in 2009 will come down to 32 percent in 2015. The sales of Android laden phones also will overtake the Symbian phones.

Earlier on Sep 17, 2010 ComScore reported that Apple's iOS lost 1.3 percent of its market share in the three months ended in Jul 2010 and Android's market share rose 5 percent in the same period.

The popularity of Android laden phones are increasing in India also. Many mobile phone manufactures are changing to Android OS. The companies like LG, Samsung, Huawei etc launched affordable Android phones with essential features of a smartphone. As per Industry estimates, mobile handset industry has grown exponentially with 108 million mobile phones sold in the country in 2009-10, resulting in sales of Rs 27,000 crore as against Rs. 25,910 crore during 2008-2009.
