AP forensic officer takes bribe over rape case

Hyderabad, Sep 17: A scientific officer at the Forensic Science Lab, was caught on Thursday, Sep 16 accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000 from a suspect in the sensational rape case of an American woman reported in Banjara Hills.

Mr Farooq, who allegedly rape an American woman, alerted the Anti-Corruption Bureau(ACB) after Mr Venkanna demanded Rs 15,000 for the early release of the DNA report.

“Venkanna called one of my friends and demanded money for giving the report in our favour. However, we refused. He again called us after some days and said the DNA test had yielded negative results. As the room in which the rape took place was sealed and would be opened after the DNA report was submitted, I asked him for the early report submission," said Mr Farooq.

ACB officials recovered money from Mr Venkanna"s pockets and the file pertaining to the case has also been seized.

Sources said he will produce before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases.
