Cabinet meet to decide on AFSPA in JK

Srinagar battle
Srinagar, Sep 13: Concerned by the situation in the Valley, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) will meet on Monday, Sep 13 to take a call on the demand for partial withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from trouble-torn Jammu and Kashmir.

However, a decision is not going to be easy as violence is escalating in the Valley.

The Army, which maintains that this move could lead to a section pinning the blame for the troubles in the Valley. And it was the Army"s reluctance that has been prompting a section within Congress, particularly defence minister A K Antony, to advice caution.

The violence in Kashmir seems to be no rest as protesters continue to throw stones in the government residents amid strict curfew on Monday, Sep 13.
