Ramadan-special Haleem now belongs to Hyderabad

Hyderabadi Haleem
Hyderabad, Sep 7: This Ramadan just became more special for Hyderabad as the city has achieved patent on its famous meat stew, Haleem.

The dish has been awarded the 'Geographical Indication (GI) Certificate' and from this day forth shall be called the Hyderabadi Haleem.

With this tag, the meat stew made of mashed goat meat, wheat, lentils, spices and almonds, joins the likes of the Tirupati Ladoo, Darjeeling Tea and Banarasi Silk.

The timing of the GI certification has also prompted cheer as the dish packed with nutrition is widely available during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which is currently being observed.

Grabbing this certification, Hyderabad has snatched the exclusive right of selling the Haleem. In other words, Haleem makers outside Hyderabad cannot sell their product calling it Hyderabadi Haleem.

Besides this, Haleem makers within the city also have to meet the stringent quality standards, which involve a 12-hour-long cooking process on low fire, if they want to claim the GI tag, reported NDTV.
