As strike hits India, curfew clamped in Srinagar

Violence in Kashmir Valley
Srinagar, Sep 7: While a nationwide strike has hit India, the Kashmir valley has yet again been silenced by curfews following another outbreak of violence.

Curfew was clamped in eight police station areas of Srinagar, including Rainawari, Maharajgunj, Safakadal, Khanyar and Nowhatta in old city, and Maisuma, Batamaloo and Kralkhud, in the wee hours of Tuesday, Sep 7.

Police said that the curfew was prompted by the eruption of violent protests and stone pelting in the city late on Monday, Sep 6. The late night protests erupted over the fresh killings at Palhalan in Pattan area of Baramulla district.

Restrictions on the movement of the people has also been imposed across the city.

“We are monitoring the situation and will take a decision as per the requirements of the situation," District Magistrate Srinagar Mehraj Ahmad Kakroo told a news agency on the restrictions.

The fresh violence was triggered off after four persons were killed and 12 others injured when security forces allegedly opened fire on a stone-pelting mob that had attacked inspector general of police SM Sahai"s convoy in Pattan area.

Besides this, one person was injured in police action against protesters at Karan Nagar.
