Rains lash Delhi, Yamuna near danger mark again

Yamuna
New Delhi, Sep 6: Indicating that rains marring the already shaky preparations for Commonwealth Games 2010 is a very real threat, heavy rains lashed the national capital on Monday, Sep 6.

Delhi has recived record rainfall this monsoon and has faced the brunt of its fall-outs such as water-logging and traffic snarls. Similar scenes were seen on Sunday, Sep 5 as well.

The city received 18 mm of rainfall between 8:30 am on Sep 5 and 8:30 am on Sep 6, said the Meterological Department.

Traffic jams were reported from various areas including ITO, Ashram Chowk, Mathura Road, Badarpur, Nizamuddin, Green Park, Laxmi Nagar while the vehicular movement was at snail's pace near Badarpur Border, Vikas Marg, Connaught Place, South Extension, Dhaula Kuan, Karol Bagh and Mehrauli.

The continuing rains have also led to the rising in the water level of river Yamuna, which is yet again reaching close to the danger mark of 204.83 metres, after it touched 205.92 metres on Aug 25.

“The water level has reached 204.80 metre at 9 am. It may go up soon as Haryana had released almost 47,000 cusecs of water last evening which may reach the city today," said an official of flood control department.
