Bihar: Literacy increases among women

Patna, Sep 6: Addressing on the occasion of Teachers' Day on Sunday, Sep 5, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said 40 lakh illiterate women were made literate under the 'Mukhyamantri Akshar Anchal Yojana' by two lakh teachers across the state.

He also announced that the government would provide Rs 250 annually to all students between three and six years going to anganwadi schools and Rs 500 to students from class three to class five for purchase of uniform.

Kumar said he had been working for the development of the state ever since he took over the reins of the state in Nov 2005.

Bihar: Two electrocuted in Dalit Basti

Sheohar, May 23: Two people, including a woman, were electrocuted at Dalit Basti early this morning when a live electric wire fell on a hut. District Police Superintendent Ajay Kumar Mishra said that the couple, fast asleep in their hut, came in contact with live wire, which accidentally got detached from the pole due to poor maintenance of the power distribution system.
