Patna, Sep 6: Just as Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was set to bask in the glory of the end of the eight day-long hostage crisis, his political rivals, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan, have opined that the state government did nothing to achieve the release of the abducted policemen.

“The Maoists let off the policemen on humanitarian grounds, I don"t know what the police and the state government did about it," said RJD's Prasad.

The LJP chief also said the state government had failed to tackle the hostage crisis.

The policemen “who were at the mercy of Maoists had been let off on humanitarian grounds," Paswan said.

“Nitish Kumar and his government have been an abject failure to tackle the hostage crisis. They cannot take credit for the release of the policemen," Mr Paswan told reporters.

Bringing up the killing of one of the four abducted policemen on Sep 2, Paswan said, that the Maoists would not have killed BMP ASI Lucas Tete if the state government had taken steps from the day one.

“The state government called an all-party meeting only under intense pressure from us. And, the result is visible today," he said, attacking the meet called by the CM on Sep 4, which is being seen as a great political move by the JD(U) leader.
