After corruption, dengue; rains set to mar CWG '10

Delhi Rains
New Delhi, Sep 6: After corruption, delay in related project work and dengue outbreak, rains are set to mar the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2010, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted.

The IMD forecasts rains in Oct 2009 in the city when the Delhi games are scheduled to be held.

"As far as the question of Commonwealth Games is concerned, many times in the first half of October, if we consider the data of last 100 years, there are possibilities of rainfall in October.

"If we talk in terms of climate, then there are chances that in Delhi, and the whole of northwest India there are chances of a rainfall in the first half of October," Director of the Indian Meteorological Department B P Yadav said.

Delhi has received record rainfall this monsoon. Heavy rains lashed the national capital on Sunday, Sep 5 leading to water-logging and traffic snarls.

As to how much rain was expected in Oct 2010, the Director said, "It is difficult to predict the amount of rainfall we will receive in the month of October. But the conditions are favorable that at least the rains will continue in September. And there are no symptoms of early monsoon withdrawal. Thus, we can clearly predict that there are no signs of early withdrawal of monsoon."

The prediction of rains is specially distressing as showers may not only slow down the construction and cleaning projects but also lead to raise in dengue, which has emerged recently as a major problem for the city as well as for the international athletes.
