Nepal: Maoists seek China's help to buy MPs

Kathmandu, Sep 4: Maoists have allegedly sought China for financial aid of Rs.50 crore in order to buy lawmakers in the upcoming poll for Nepal's new Premier where their leader Prachanda is to contest in the election.

In a telephonic conversation, the tape which was leaked to the media in Kathmandu, Foreign Department chief Krishna Bahadur Mahara was heard asking an unknown Chinese official for Rs 50 crore to buy 50 MPs from Terai-based Madhesi parties.

Sources said that Mahara conversation in the audio tape was broadcasted by local TV channels.

However, Mahara completely dismissed the tape as "fabricated, misleading and fictitious." Leader Prachanda had been rejected in the previous five rounds of voting in the Parliament for the post of Prime Minister.

7 children among 11 people killed in Nepal crash

Kathmandu, July 7: At least 11 people, including seven children, were killed and four others injured when a tractor with an attached trolley plunged into an irrigation canal in Nepal, state-run television reported today.
