Islamabad, Sep 2: Three blasts rocked Lahore on Wednesday, Sep 1 evening, killing 30 people and injuring 250.
The blasts were aimed at a Shia procession comprising hundreds of people that gather in the walled city of Lahore during the holy month of Ramzaan.
The explosions hit 3 separate locations as 45,000 Shias marched in a traditional mourning ceremony for the assassination of Ali, the Prophet Muhammad's cousin.
The first two bombs of small intensity went off near the Karbala Gamay Shah Imambargah or prayer ground just when Muslims across Pakistan broke their fast.
Within half an hour, a third and more powerful bomb exploded at Lahore's Bhatti Chowk at about 7:20 pm.
Khusro Pervez, commissioner Lahore, said that 18 bodies had been brought to the morgue while 162 people were injured. He warned the number of dead could rise.
Geo News channel reported that the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi al-Almi had claimed responsibility for the blasts.
