The Diaspora, a privacy-aware and personally controlled social network, will launch its public alpha version in Oct 2010. Diaspora is regarded as the anti-Facebook project and one of the most ambitious projects to launch in the recent times.
Diaspora's open-source developer release will be on Sept 15, 2010. The main aim behind the Diaspora is to provide a hosted social networking solution that is controlled and owned by the user.
The brains behind Diaspora's social network project were four students, Daniel Grippi, Maxwell Salzberg, Raphael Sofaer and Ilya Zhitomirskiy. They described Diaspora as an open source platform which is designed for people who are not comfortable sharing their personal lives on services like Facebook and Twitter.
The Diaspora will be a new social networking hub which allows the users not to share their personal data.
