BJP attacks govt on Sibal-Rao spat

Arun Jaitley
New Delhi, Sep 1: In the wake of the spat between Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal and senior Congress leader K Keshava Rao, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attacked the Congress-led UPA government over the lack of coordination between union ministers and ruling party MPs.

"The government appears to be losing direction...there is no collective governance. There is a gap between ministers and ruling party MPs," Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley told reporters here on Wednesday, Sep 1.

The differences between Sibal and Rao emerged key education reforms bill.

Jaitley's counterpart in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, who was pleased with BJP and Opposition's performance in the Monsoon session, remarked, “But for the government, it was a refer and defer session."

Scoffing at the reports of a 'deal' between the BJP and the government over the controversial Nuclear Liability Bill, Swaraj said, “I strictly object to the use of the term deal. A deal has to be for the entire session and not a particular bill...it is a baseless allegation that it was a deal."
