Guwahati, Aug 25: To promote trade between NE India and South East Asian countries, NE region should have a policy for creating a unified common market in the region said Prof Atul Sarma an economist.
This policy will provide a good vision for overall development of North East region. To materialize such a vision, lots of preparations have to be made within the NE region as well as South East Asian countries in terms of infrastructure, added Prof.
Institutions like the North Eastern Council (NEC) can play a very important and innovative role in this respect.
The region also needs to have goods like floriculture, tea, handloom and handicraft for exportions and the South East Asian countries should be able to provide expertise and know-how resources will boost up the infrastructure of NE region, which is grossly inadequate.
To fulfill all these plans the NE officials should work hand in hand with Asians in utilizing the vast natural resources of the region at the optimum level which is not being used.
