YouTube launches new mobile website

YouTube Logo
New York, Aug 24: YouTube, the video-sharing website which users can upload, share, and view videos, launched a new mobile website, designed to make it easier to watch and share videos on mobile devices.

Google Inc, parent company of YouTube, claimed that the new mobile website will deliver faster and better quality videos. The new site was built on the HTML5 standard and accessed through the phone"s web browser. It will offer better user experience than native mobile applications.

The new site has enhanced social networking features to make it easier to share video links on Twitter, Facebook and Google Buzz. The new site offers 'touch-friendly' elements to make easier for users with touch-screen devices to access videos.

A new special feature allows users to 'like' or 'unlike' their favourite videos.

"YouTube consumption on mobile devices has grown considerably. Playbacks were up 160 percent in 2009 over 2008, and YouTube mobile now receives more than 100 million video playbacks a day," said Google in a statement.

"YouTube knows that users want to be able to find and access favourite videos wherever they are and that"s why we"re rolling out an updated version of the mobile site. As the world continues to go mobile, YouTube thinks this new site will offer a great improvement for anyone who wants a more consistent YouTube experience across devices," Google added.
