Pak elites unhappy over acceptance of India's aid

Islamabad, Aug 21: Even though Islamabad has accepted India's offer for the flood aid, there are issues that many Pakistanis are not happy with the decision of the government.

Critics say acceptance came only because US urged the Pakistan government to accept it.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who was at the UN to attend an emergency session on Pakistan's floods, said the government of Pakistan had accepted the Indian offer of USD 5 million.

"It is beyond understanding that the government accepted the offer after few days," said former foreign minsiter Abdul Sattar.

However there were people who supported the government to accept the offer at the hour of unprecedented disaster in the country.

But the hardest criticism came from the editor of The Nation daily, Shireen Mazar, wrote that the government of Pakistan had shown its submissiveness to the US by accepting the "puny amount of USD 5 million".

She also wrote the statement that "India is targeting Pakistan on false charges again on a regular basis, is a shame for the entire nation for accepting the offer."

Pakistan is a USA slave. Without USA intervention, Paksitan shoul have accepted Indian gesture as a sign of goodwill and friendship. We deeply appreciate the Indian gesture -- the amount is totally irrelevant. Hawks on both sides can join hands and have fun. We are for Indo-Pak positive relations

Stop with your hateful comments. Can't you be humane in their hour of need? There are hawks in every society. We have hawks in India too, and they don't represent the whole of our country do they? To Pakistanis, I wish that your country gets back to normal as soon as possible. Regards, Rohit.
