Prof hand chopping case: Attacker arrested

Kochi, Aug 20: Police arrested Shamsuddin, one of the attackers in the team which chopped off the hand of Malayalam Prof T J Joseph at Muvatupuzha on Friday, Aug 20.

Shamsuddin told the police that it was a seven-member squad that carried out the attack on Prof Joseph.

This is for the first time that someone who allegedly took part in the assault is being arrested. Shamsuddin, who hails from Perumbavoor was arrested from Palakkad according to police sources.

According to the police, Shamsuddin is involved in several attacks carried out by the Popular Front of India.

The right hand of Joseph, a Malayalam professor at Newman"s College Thodupuzha, was chopped by a group of people on Sunday, Jul 4 for preparing a question paper having derogatory references to Prophet Mohammed.

Kottayam, May 23: In a gruesome incident, a new born infant was mauled by a stray dog at Manarcadu here yesterday.According to the police, the local people in the area found the body of the baby being dragged by the dog.The postmortem revealed that the body was of a three-day-old baby girl, the sources said, adding the baby was suffocated to death immediately after its birth.It was suspected that the baby might have been abandoned by.....
