Mangalore plane crash 2010: Court starts inquiry

Mangalore, Aug 18: After 86 days of the massive plane crash (AI flight IX 812) in Mangalore airport, a court started inquiry on Tuesday, Aug 17.

According to DNA, traffic control department, the fire department and Air India had been asked for the trial.

As per the daily report, Air Traffic Control Guild pointed to the fact that the flight had overshot the landing threshold by several meters and also that the approach to the runway was higher than the normal approach altitude.

Air India officials told the court the at the landing time, the Instrument Landing System (ILS) was in perfect condition and the ATC had established contact with the IX 812 seconds before it touched down.

The fire department of Mangalore, had indicated chaos at the crash site and said that the narrow approach road had been allowed to be chocked with traffic.

The Air India Express flight IX 812 was coming from Dubai to Mangalore and crashed while attempting to land at the Bajpe airport, killing 158 passengers.

This was the first major plane crash in India since 2000.
