Narayana Murthy on JK job formulating panel

Narayana Murthy
New Delhi, Aug 11: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, on Tuesday, Aug 10, came up with a new idea to settle down the Kashmir problem by declaring of establishing an expert group, which will generate jobs to the youths of the valley.

The high level expert group led by Infosys founding Chairman N R Narayana Murthy and former Reserve Bank of India governor C Rangarajan.

The group, which will also have President of Aspen Institute and former Chief Mentor of CII, Tarun Das, President of the Federation of Chamber of Industries (Kashmir) Shaqueel Qalander, P Nanda Kumar and a representative of the Jammu and Kashmir government, will submit its report within three months from Aug 2010.

"But to show results of such efforts on the ground, you will have to engage actively with the youth and give them the sense of purpose, hope and direction they need to make use of the many opportunities that our economy provides," said Singh.

Manmohan Singh set up the expert group to formulate a jobs plan for the state, involving both the public and the private sectors.

The second largest Indian IT company Infosys, founded by Narayana Murthy, recently faced criticism from US senator, Schumer, who called Infosys a 'chop shop.'

However, presence of people like Murthy and Rangarajan in the panel created hopes among many that the panel would be fruitful to Kashmiri youths.
