CWG corruption by good wishes of UPA govt: BJP

Nitin Gadkari
New Delhi, Aug 10: Alleging that government or political backing of some sort was also involved in the irregularities of Delhi Commonwealth Games (CWG) projects, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, Aug 10 called for "stringent action" on the matter.

“In the name of Commonwealth Games, open corruption by the good wishes of UPA Government is unfortunate for the country... stringent action is required on the issue of corruption," BJP President Nitin Gadkari told reporters here.

UPA government “cannot shirk from its responsibility", he added.

The party president also added that “the present situation would not have arisen" if the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, had taken prompt action on a CAG report.

Slamming the snowballing controversy over allegations of corruption in CWG 2010 as something that brings "international disrepute" to India, the BJP president pinned Centre, Delhi Government and Suresh Kalmadi-led Organising Committee (OC) responsible for it.
