Students held at party asked to do social service

Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies, Pune
Pune, Aug 5: The students of the Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS), who were booked by the police following a raid on a 'Friendship Day' party, have been asked to do community service.

SIMS' vice-chancellor M S Raste on Wednesday, Aug 4 decided to suspend the five students, who organised the party at a farmhouse at Theur on Aug 1 to celebrate Friendship Day, for fifteen days.

During suspension period, these students are to undertake community service for minimum of eight hours per day at an organisation like the Queen Mary"s Technical Institute, Khadki, the VC has been quoted as saying in a newspaper report.

Students who attended the party will also have their late nights curtailed for three months and be given counselling, Times of India reported.The inquiry report from a six-member committee formed by Symbiosis Institute to probe into Sunday"s incident was submitted on Wednesday, Aug 4.

As many as 489 students were held on Aug 1 when police raided a party held at a farmhouse at Theur. Majority of those detained were students of SIMS.

Is it wrong to do party? What is happening in this country is purely bad for democracy. I don't relinquish my right to do party and enjoy with friends. What is life?
