Food inflation declines marginally to 9.53 pc

New Delhi, Aug 5: The food inflation, which was over 20 percent in Dec 2009, has slipped to single digit figure in the third week of Jul.

Annual food inflation fell marginally to 9.53 percent for the week ended Jul 24, as prices of vegetables declined.

The decline in the food inflation has been attributed to the fall in the prices of vegetables, especially potatoes and onions.

The food inflation, which was 9.67 percent for the week ended Jul 17, remained in single digit for the second consecutive week.

Potato became cheaper by 41.14 percent, Onion price slid by 4.06 percent and vegetables overall saw a decline of 17.32 percent, on an yearly basis.

While as pulses became dearer by 20.49 percent, prices of rice and wheat rose by 7.28 percent and 6.79 percent, respectively, during the week under review over the same period in 2009.
