Chandigarh, Aug 3: As the world continues its battle against several forms of crimes committed against women from cradle to grave, a shocking story of a man abandoning his wife after she gave birth to a girl child has emerged from here.

The ailing woman, identified as Monica, has alleged that her husband, hailing from Mohali, has dumped her after she gave brith to a girl child. The man has reportedly left for Australia taking all of his ailing wife's jewellery.

Monica is currently in Government Medical College Hospital here for gall bladder stone surgery.

The woman, who was married to Vipan Sheel Pruti on Jan 19, 2008, has now turned to the media to help her fight for justice.

"Just few weeks after marriage, Vipan and his family started treating me badly. They forced me to bring more dowry from my parents. I was badly beaten up and locked up in my room. I was not even allowed to meet my parents," she is quoted as saying.

Monica's family has reportedly filed an FIR against Vipan's family and a neighbour Jaswant Gill who all allegedly beat up her on Mar 29, 2010.

This case has two-fold ramifications of crime against women as it not only speaks of sexual discrimination when it comes to children but also tells a tale of marital abuse.
