Cuba to implement major economic changes

Havana, Aug 2: Cuban President Raul Castro told that the government will ease controls on small businesses and allow more self-employment.

In Communist country Cuba, state controls every aspect of the economy. The constitution describes the Communist Party of Cuba as the leading force of society and of the state.

Castro announced the economic changes on Sunday, Aug 1 during the opening of parliament's biannual session. He also announced that the government will cease unnecessary workers.

Different Cuban media reported the President's announcement about economic changes as a move to overcome the financial crisis.

Russia expands key aircraft market in Cuba

Havana, Aug 7: Russia has delivered the first of three Tupolev medium-haul jet planes to Cuba, expanding one of its main export markets for commercial aircraft, the Cuban Communist Party newspaper Granma reported. The cargo version of the TU-204 arrived in Havana on Sunday and two passenger jets will be delivered before the end of the year as Cuba upgrades its aging Soviet-era fleet, the paper said yesterday.
