New Delhi, Jul 31: Green homes are the need of the hour, emphasized the Minister of State of Urban Development, Professor Saugata Roy at the inauguration of the Confederation of Indian industry's (CII) two-day 'National Conference on Green Homes'.
Mr Roy spoke on the importance of environment conservation. Sustainable development through Green Homes is a commendable step in this direction.
"India is a Pioneer in the international movement in conservation of the environment and has a long historic tradition of environmental conservation," he observed before stress that Green Homes are the need of the hour as it results in energy efficiency of 40 per cent, water savings of 30 per cent and ensure optimal utilization of the day lighting.
Besides speaking on the National Housing & Habitat Policy of India 2007, which emphasized the development of alternate and novel construction materials, the minister appreciated IGBC"s (Indian Green Building Council) initiatives to promote green building concepts in India.
