Vancouver, Jul 29: Amazon introduces new generation Kindle with Wi-Fi and 3G wireless.
The new Kindle, which was officially released on Wednesday, Jul 28, has a electronic-ink screen with 50 percent better contrast and a new sleek design with a 21 percent smaller body.
Amazon increased the memory capacity of Kindle from 2GB to 4GB and double the battery life from two weeks to four weeks.
The new Kindle has 6-inch E-Ink display, 20 percent faster page turns, smaller page-turn buttons that are also quieter and a new experimental WebKit-based browser.
It also uses an improved built-in PDF reader, with new dictionary lookup, notes and highlights, and support for password protected PDFs.
"Kindle is the best-selling product on Amazon for two years running. We lowered the price to $189 and sales growth tripled. Now, we are excited to introduce a new generation Kindle that is smaller, lighter, and faster, with 50 percent better contrast," said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com founder and chief executive officer (CEO).
The first generation Kindle was launched in the United States on Nov 19, 2007. Kindle is a software and hardware platform developed by Amazon.com for the rendering and displaying of e-books and other digital media.
