US Congress sends war funding bill to Obama

Obama
Washington, Jul 28: US Congress sent $37 billion emergency funding bill for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to President Barack Obama to sign it into law.

The bill was sent to President Barack Obama on Wednesday, Jul 28. The House voted 308-114 on Tuesday, Jul 27 to forward the measure to Obama for his signature.

Washington Post
reported that the number of Democrats who opposed the funding was more than double the number who voted down a similar measure in 2009.

This shows the growing divide between Obama and members of his party about Afghanistan.

"What has changed in my mind is I am so discouraged at the chances of our commitment in Afghanistan succeeding that I think it's time to say, no more," said Congressman Henry A Waxman.
