India shows 'unity in diversity' in MPI study

New Delhi, Jul 27: A new study revealed that India keeps 'unity in diversity' in multi-dimensional poverty index also!

The newly released multi-dimensional poverty index (MPI) which compared state-level and country-level data showed that different Indian states have different pace in development.

The new MPI study showed that the Indian states Kerala and Goa have a similar level of development as middle-income countries like Philippines and Indonesia. At the same time states like Jharkhand and Bihar were similar to the least-developed countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The new MPI study was conducted by the UK-based Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

MPI was composed of ten weighted indicators that measure education, health and standard of living.

Kerala has the highest MPI of 0.065 and Goa has the MPI of 0.094. Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar were the the states at the bottom of the Indian report card.
