UN asks Israel and Palestine to take bold steps

New York, Jul 23: United Nations Secretary General, Ban ki-Moon, asked Palestine and Israel leaders to take bold steps to achieve peace in the region.

Ban ki-Moon, in a message to United Nations media seminar organized by the UN Department of Public Information (DPI) in Portugal, told that both parties should refrain from provocations and seize the opportunity for direct talks.

"A two-State solution is vital for Israel to maintain its democratic character and identity and gain security and legitimacy throughout the region. It is also essential for Palestinians to achieve genuine freedom and national self-determination, and to end the occupation," said UN Secretary General.

Earlier on Monday, Jul 5 Israeli Government announced that it was increasing the scope and quantity of materials allowed into Gaza.
