Rajasthan demands quota for backward classes

New Delhi, Jul 23: Rajasthan has become the only state requesting a 14 per cent quota for the economically backwards while  other states have shot down the reservations for the poor.

This report was submitted to the Centre on Thursday, Jul 22.

The panel formed in Jul 2006 by the UPA government, had given consideration to “economically backward" whose annual income is below Rs 1.6 lakh and also exempted from paying tax.

A source in the National Commission said that most of the states have opposed any further quota for the poor.

Raj: 16 families return into Khalsa Panth

Sriganganagar, May 21: Amid row over the activities of Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, as many as 16 families of nearby 3-H Chhoti village, followers of the Dera mission, have returned into the Khalsa Panth. These families were baptised into the Khalsa Panth in a brief religious function held in the village gurdwara on Saturday evening.
