Uncertainty over Torres, Mascherano in Liverpool

Fernando Torres
London, Jul 22: While the Spanish striker Fernando Torres is yet to commit to a fourth season with Liverpool, uncertainity looms over Argentine star Javier Mascherano's inclusion in the club.

"Christian Purslow, the club's managing director, has been talking to Fernando Torres for the last two days so there have been lots of words. But I haven't spoken to him, no," said the new coach Roy Hodgson when asked about the 50 million pound-worth striker.

On Mascherano, Hodgon told The Sun, "Javier Mascherano is on holiday and isn't due back until the fifth of August so that's when I'll be speaking to him."

According to The Guardian, Hodgson is reportedly mulling on the possibility to sell Argentine midfielder Javier Mascherano so as to raise revenue for new players.

Meanwhile, in his interview with The Sun, the coach celebrated the fact Steven Gerrard was staying and the signing of Joe Cole.

"It was a major day yesterday with the signing of Joe Cole in tandem with Gerrard saying he is staying. Hopefully he will soon be followed by Fernando Torres," he said.

The club is set begin practice on Monday, Jul 26 on the return of its players, who were part of the World Cup 2010.
