Spain's captain Casillas wears the Golden Glove

Johannesburg, Jul 12: Goal keeper Iker Casillas, who has played a very key role in Spain's victory at the FIFA World Cup 2010, was awarded with the Golden Glove.

Previously called Lev Yashin award, named after the legendary Soviet Goal keeper of the fifties, the Golden Glove is awarded to the one player, who excelled in defended the goal.

The 29-year-old Real Madrid player, who is also Captain of the Spain team, definitely deserved the title after having conceded just two goals in the tournament.

"It"s a real honour. This is one of those awards that you look for but don"t expect to win," the shot-stopper is quoted as saying on FIFA.com.

Spain posted consecutive 1-0 victories, over Portugal, Paraguay, Germany and the Netherlands, to become the eight football World Cup champions.

On winning his team winning the country's first World Cup, the national veteran with 111 caps, told FIFA.com, “This is something you dream about as a child, winning a cup that you"ve seen Brazil, France and Italy win. It"s something you see in videogames and on TV. It"s something you see everywhere but can never picture happening to you. To be honest, I still can"t believe it."
