Kharif harvest will reduce inflation: Pawar

Sharad Pawar
New Delhi, Jul 10: "The coming good monsoons is favoring India. The government is in confidence that the kharif harvest will help to increase agricultural production and reduce inflation," said the Agriculture minister, Sharad Pawar on Friday, Jul 9.

Faced with a poor monsoon last year, Pawar said, " till now three million hectares of land has been sown with various crops like oilseeds, sugarcane and paddy. This year the farmers will sow more than 20.53 million hectares under the kharif sowing."

"The way sowing operation is going across the various states, we are likely to have more production of crops this year and it will help to regain Indian economy and also reduce the government's woes on the inflation ," he added.

"This time rainfall will be good which is predicted by the Met department and a good monsoon will definitely help to reduce the inflation, but it's bit early to predict actual production," said D K Joshi, chief economist with CRISIL.

Though agriculture in India is improving day by day, but the population is growing faster than its ability to produce rice and wheat.
