Lucknow, Jul 9: Six workers drowned after falling into a giant vat of sauce, at a tomato sauce factory in Talkatora area of Lucknow, in Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday, Jul 7.
The frightful incident took palce when Usha, a female worker of Akansha food products, a sauce and pickles processing unit, was lifting out the fermented vegetables from a large open vessel and suddenly slipped from her ladder and pluged into the raw material used to make the tomato sauce. Later her five co-workers jumped one after the other to save Usha, but all drowned together.
"She went near the tank to clean the area and accidentally fell into it and her co-workers jumped to save her," police said.
According to the sources the factory owners treated the labourers like slaves. The family members of the deceased have demanded compensation from the factory owners.
A case has been filed against Ritesh Arora, the owner of Akanksha Food Products and investigation is going on. while the Lucknow District Administration has sealed the unit.
