Heavy rains paralyze Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, Jul 6: The normal life in Punjab, Haryana and their joint capital Chandigarh was paralyzed due to heavy rainfall on Jul 6.

Rains would continue for the next two to three days in the region, said the weather office on Tuesday, Jul 6.

A senior meteorological department official said,"Monday, Jul 5, Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 29.4 degrees Celsius, six notches below normal. Similarly, most parts of Punjab and Haryana also saw a dip of three to four degrees in mercury."

According to met officials, monsoon arrived in this part of northern India on Monday, Jul 5.

In 2009, monsoon had hit the region on Jun 30.

Due to continuous rainfall, various parts of Chandigarh and Punjab faced problems as water logging led to traffic jams and hit normal life in the region.
