Heavy rains paralyze Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, Jul 6: The normal life in Punjab, Haryana and their joint capital Chandigarh was paralyzed due to heavy rainfall on Jul 6.

Rains would continue for the next two to three days in the region, said the weather office on Tuesday, Jul 6.

A senior meteorological department official said,"Monday, Jul 5, Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 29.4 degrees Celsius, six notches below normal. Similarly, most parts of Punjab and Haryana also saw a dip of three to four degrees in mercury."

According to met officials, monsoon arrived in this part of northern India on Monday, Jul 5.

In 2009, monsoon had hit the region on Jun 30.

Due to continuous rainfall, various parts of Chandigarh and Punjab faced problems as water logging led to traffic jams and hit normal life in the region.

Bangkok, May 20: High sea waves unleashed by stormy monsoon weather have forced authorities to temporarily close down the beaches in Thailand's world famous Andaman Sea resort of Phuket.Swimming and wading in the water has been banned with tourists and local residents asked to move to higher ground as three to four metre-high waves pound the coast.The waves have damaged beachside shops and restaurants, washing away the foundations.Weather officials attribute the unusual waves to normal tides.....

Monsoon toll reaches 131 in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, July 18: As many as 131 people have died in monsoon-triggered natural calamities in Kerala since June one, the Legislative Assembly was informed today. Replying to the notice for an adjournment motion sought to be moved by Mr K Sudhakaran (Cong) on the monsoon havoc, Food and Civil Supplies Minister C Divakaran said 15 deaths were reported during the last two days alone. He said 1,446 houses were destroyed and 27,777 partially damaged.....

Darjeeling, July 15: Landslides triggered by heavy rains damaged some houses and cut off Darjeeling and Kurseong towns from the rest of the country since last night, official sources said today.
