Gilani, Sharif to hold terrorism conference

Yousuf Raza Gilani
Islamabad, Jul 4: Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and opposition leader Nawaz Sharif have agreed to hold a national conference to discuss on the ways to combat terrorism. The decision came on Saturday, Jul 3 after Sharif said the government should negotiate with the country's Taliban militants to improve security.

The new decision shows the consensus between the two parties, which have clashed over how to address the problem of growing violence in Punjab, the country's richest and populous province.

Sharif had called the government to negotiate with Pakistani Taliban militants adding that Taliban militants are ready to talk and ready to listen.

The press release which announced the new move of the leaders came when Pakistan tries to weigh in on reconciliation efforts in Afghanistan between the government, the United States and the Afghan Taliban.
