Bangalore, Jun 21: Based on an informal survey, IT giant Infosys has said that 40 per cent of the company's new recruits hail from rural areas.
“We were pleasantly surprised that 40 per cent of new employees joining are not from urban areas," informed S Gopalakrishnan, CEO of Infosys.
He added that through the survey the Bangalore-based company also found that one or either of the parents of majority of these non-urban area employees have not completed SSLC.
Terming the entry of people from non-urban backgrounds into the company as 'quiet transformation' in changing lives of people and in creating 'more middle-class', the Mr Gopalakrishnan observed that it was not necessary that businesses had go to rural areas but instead people from rural areas could be recruited.
The statement from the CEO came as a response to an audience member's question at an innovation convention, organised by the IIT Kanpur Alumni Association as part of golden jubilee celebrations of its alma mater.
