Mumbai, Jun 16: Heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds swept India's financial capital leading to water logging in several areas, crippling normal life and reminding the Mumbaikars of the horrid 2005 floods with as many as eight people reportedly killed in the rain.

According to the Met department, Mumbai city has received 60.77 mm rainfall, Colaba in south Mumbai received 78.6 mm and suburban Santacruz received 95.0 mm since Tuesday, Jun 15,.

Areas such as Dadar in central Mumbai, Cadbury Junction, Hind Mata are the worst hit by water logging.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a warning asking people to not venture out and to stay away from the shoreline as more rains are expected.

The rains have disrupted road, rail and air traffic.

According to reports, train services on the Western line were running late by 10 to 15 minutes while the Central line trains were delayed by 15 to 20 minutes.

Air traffic has been disrupted due to fluctuating visibility. Arrivals are 45 minutes late while departures are two hours behind schedule.

Airport officials told media that a total of five flights have been diverted including one Air India Chennai flight.
