Washington, Jun 15: A group of Bhopal activists in America protested a demonstration outside the Indian Embassy in United States, pleading the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to provide justice to the Bhopal gas tragedy victims and extradite the then Union Carbide chief Warren Anderson to India.
The activists displayed placards and shouted slogans against Dow Chemicals and Union Carbide. They also held placards against the recent court verdict, which did not even mention Warren Anderson's name. They held the demonstrations infront of the Gandhi Statue outside the Embassy on Monday, Jun 14.
The activists submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through Indian Embassy in United States. They urged for the setting up of an Empowered Commission on Bhopal to plan and implement the rehabilitation schemes. The memorandum was under the name of 'International Campaign for Justice in Bhopal'.
The acivists requested to make sure that Dow Chemicals along with Union Carbide India pay for the clearing up of the site in Bhopal and the victims affected by the tragedy.
There were other protests for the same organised by ICJB and Kids in New York, to remind the officials that Anderson was still absconding and needed to respond accordingly.
Akash Viswanath Mehta, a 12-year old Indian-American activist also tried to issue summons against Warren Anderson, outside Park Avenue which houses the law firm which represents Union Carbide.
