San Francisco, Jun 8: Continuing its efforts to thwart the threat from rival companies such as Google Inc in the smartphone market, Apple Inc has unveiled its all new slim iPhone 4, which will hit the markets on Jun 24.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs introduced the new iPhone on Monday, Jun 7 at the annual conference for software developers.
The new phone which boosts of higher-resolution screen, longer battery life and thinner design, will come with a price tag of 199 dollars or 299 dollars in the US depending on the capacity. The phone also comes with a two year AT&T contract.
The USP of the new iPhone 4 is its sleek design. Compared to its predecessor, which was about 12 millimeters, or nearly half an inch thick, iPhone 4 is less than 10 millimeters thick, or approximately about three-eighths of an inch.
A novel feature of iPhone 4 is that its five-megapixel camera is on the front. It could be used for videoconferencing as well.
Even though the screen remains 3.5 inches diagonally, the display is of high resolution. It can show four times as many pixels as the previous screen, said Jobs.
iPhone will run on iOS4, the latest version of Apple's mobile software, which was released in Apr 2010.
