'Islamic' skirts from government for Aceh women

'Islamic' skirts from government for Aceh women in Indonesia
Indonesia, May 26: Islamic police in Indonesia's Aceh province have been delivered 20,000 long skirts for the Muslim women. They have also ordered to cover up the ladies who are deviating the Muslim dress codes, said an official source on Tuesday, May 25.

The new 'islamic-skirt' dress code is implemented in the province on Northern Sumatra island. The figure-hugging hot outfits like tight trousers are banned here under Islamic laws which have outraged less conservative parts of the mainly Muslim island.

The police officials in West Aceh district have been instructed to ask the women wearing wrong clothes to put on the skirts issued by the government, on the spot.

Ramli Mansur, the West Aceh district chief informed the media that the female 'offenders' can immediately change the tight outfits to the long, loose skirts if Sharia police catch them. Though the Islamic police do not have the power to arrest the women who violate dress-codes, they can regularly stop them and demand to change their clothings.

Mansur also said that he would have to answer to God about what he did to enforce Sharia or Islamic laws, one day. He advocated the residents to expect increased vigilance and 'raids' by the morality squad called 'Wilayatul Hisbah'.
