Blantyre (Malawi), May 19: Two homosexual men, who were arrested in Dec 2009, have been pronounced guilty of indulging in unnatural acts and gross indecency.
The court, which convicted the gay couple on Tuesday, May 18, is yet to make a decision on the quantum of sentence. The final verdict is expected on Thursday, May 20 and the duo could face 14 years in jail.
The gay men, identified as Steven Monjeza (26) and Tiwonge Chimbalanga (20), were arrested on Dec 27, 2009 after they threw a party to celebrate their engagement.
The conservative African country does not approve homosexuality.
During the trial, the two prisoners were ridiculed by Malawians, who gathered there, out of curiosity, to look at the homosexual men.
