IGI Airport: Fourth best in the world

Haina, May 14: Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport has been named the fourth best airport in the world. For the extraordinary improvements made for the passenger convenience, it also bagged the title of 'Best Improved Airport' in the Asia Pacific Region.

The award was presented by Airport Council International (ACI) at Haina, in China.

Airport Council International is the apex body of airports across the globe. It has 575 members working for 1633 airports in 179 countries.

ACI inspected 34 parameters connected with the passenger convenience and infrastructure, which rewarded IGI airport with this new honour. The parameters include security, immigration, ambiance of the airport, customs, cleanliness of the terminals and satisfaction of the passengers.

IGI airport handles more than 25 million passenger traffic a year.

The top one on the list is the Baltimore airport in US.

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad, got the award for the world's number one airport dealing 5 to 15 million passengers a year.

The authorities hope that the prestigious recognition received now will inspire the employees to improve the service further.
