Mittal glad he has nothing to do with scam-hit IPL
New Delhi, May 10: In the wake of the controversy surrounding the Indian Premier League (IPL), Steel Tycoon Lakhmi Mittal expressed relief that he was not part of the Twenty-20 cricket series.

Speaking to an Indian news agency, the Indian-born ArcelorMittal CEO and Chairman said he was 'glad' that he had not bought an IPL team and also rubbished reports that he was planning on buying one dubbing them as 'rumours'.

"I was not really interested in participating in any IPL. It requires a lot of attention and time, I am not based in India so it was not really making a lot of sense," the UK-based industrialist added.

However, it should be noted that Mittal promotes and supports sports and athletes in India through the Mittal Champions Trust (MCT).

The prominent names among those sportspersons who enjoy the backing from the NRI billionaire include ace shuttler Saina Nehwal and Olympian pugilists Akhil Kumar and Jitender Kumar.
